My journey into Ayurveda Health

My physical health journey started in 2020 on an ordinary evening when the phone rang. I noticed that it was my husband calling as he did every night while at work. I didn’t think much of it at first. As he seemed disoriented on the phone the panic settled into my heart. HIs first words were I think I am having a heart attack something is wrong with me. I immediately jumped up out of bed and ran for the keys and my shoes and raced out the door. To be honest I don’t remember if I even put shoes on.

I was on the phone with 911 while on the other line with my husband and co workers. I managed to make it out to his job before the ambulance arrived. We met the ambulance on a dirt road in the darkness. As I pulled over I was completely frantic and almost forgot to put the vehicle in park. My husband collapsed into my arms and was immediately placed into the ambulance as I followed behind. My first instinct was don’t you dare die on me tonight. I started to raise my voice to the universe that it wasn’t his time to go. I was powerless and had no control in that moment.

When we arrived at the hospital they confirmed that my husband did not have a heart attack but they could not explain what happened to him. HIs blood work was normal, all the tests were normal, all the scans were normal. My husband did not appear to be acting “normal”. This was nothing I had ever experienced with him in 17 years. Over the last three years we were met with drs scratching their heads to what happened to him. They threw out different disorders, diagnosis but were very quick to say they had no idea what was happening. We made our way though the western medical system with little to no answers until recently. My husband was diagnosed with several autoimmune disorders that targeted his whole body system and forced several shut downs all at once. We were met with decisions and choices the last three years and as I write this now the choices and decisions are continuing.

So as the world was shutting down due to covid pandemic I threw myself into a two year program to become an Ayurveda Health Counselor. If the western medical model wasn’t able to assist me I wanted to learn a different system. Ayurveda was always something that I was curious about but never actively pursued it until 2020. I needed to know more about this ancient system. I dove head first into an intensive program with teachers that have been actively practicing Ayurveda for decades. I got to spend every week with some of the top teachers in the US and India.

Ayurveda originated in India more than 5,000 years ago. Ayurveda teaches us that the universe is made up of five elements (Mahabhutas): ether, air, fire, water, and earth. Ether is the governing element of space. Air is the governing element of movement. Fire is the governing element of transformation. Water is the governing element of cohesion. Earth is the governing element of structure. Tuning into the elements around us can move us further into our health and well being.

Ayurveda focuses on living in balance with the rhythms of nature. When we are in harmony with our external system our internal health is balanced. When we are in balance our mind, body, soul connection aligns. If we step out of the daily and seasonal rhythms of nature imbalances begin to appear. To address an imbalance, Ayurveda teaches us to treat ourselves with the opposite qualities of the environment.

The Ayurvedic approach addresses the individual’s current psychological, emotional, and physical state through the system of the doṣas and their connecting qualities. Ayurveda is a science for practical living and it encompasses daily routines and seasonal routines. Ayurveda focuses on spices, nutrition, herbs, plants, lifestyle, and tuning inward. It strives to teach through us a basic understanding of cause and effect and of the harmonious balance of the body and mind. Its laws are based on observing and watching nature itself. Ayurveda is the breath, the mind, the spirit, and the soul. Slow down, listen to your body, and hear how it is speaking to you.

So… I took an Ayurvedic approach with my husband and myself. I started to address where my time and energy was being placed, the food and drink I was putting in my body, and the way I was actively living my life. I had completely changed our lifestyle one section at a time. Things started to realign and I started to see some improvements over time.

My Ayurveda program starts February 23rd, 2023 and I am incorporating in those lifestyle changes that can help to re-balance the life and create holistic wellness in the lives of others. I am breaking down what you need in your life and how to heal from the inside out.
